Stéphane Rolland’s Fall/Winter 2024-2025 haute couture collection brought back the fair 1940s and 1950s Parisian era to Paris Haute Couture Week. This is an evening effect, full of elegance and sophistication, owing to iconic figures such as Édith Piaf and Yves Montand, matched in a very strict and monocromatic black-and-white color scheme. Feathers, stones, and sumptuous material such as satin, velvet, and gazar glided by the Salle Pleyel, now restored in its former elegance. Tailoring was a big influence, with flowing chiffon gowns and rigid jackets combining to produce a beautiful blend of feminine and masculine elements.
Rolland’s designs accentuated a subtle sensuality, as evidenced by exposed backs, plunging necklines, and embellished belts that hinted at a sexual underside. Every piece exemplified the mysticism and grace associated with Parisian couture in the mid-20th century. A bride came in a billowing white hooded dress magnificently adorned with porcelain and organza flowers, kicking off an incredible finale to the extravaganza. Rolland’s range, which exemplified French elegance via high craftsmanship and classic design, was a testament to his artistic vision.
