Alexis Mabille on this season’s Fall/Winter 2024-2025 haute couture show at Lido 2 Paris, now thoroughly done up, with all the dazzle and glitz of Old Hollywood. That has to be a case of presentation with a dose of added elegance and drama—luxury chairs and clinking cocktails in the background. The color scheme, which included dazzling lamé robes that glistened like bubbles and nude sheath dresses, was intended to evoke the frothy quality of champagne. Beaded designs flowed in color gradients beneath the runway lights, while black velvet studded with stray sequins echoed the venue’s shimmering water features. Mabille’s designs added a contemporary spin to classic Hollywood forms. Corsetry and horsehair were used to create dramatic proportions, as seen in hourglass dresses made of duchesse satin and crêpe with prominent shoulders. The addition of sequins to the linings of several dresses offered a spectacular touch.
Classic shirting gave way to refined evening wear with collars on the shoulders and bodice. A dramatic scarlet dress with a billowing satin bow represented the collection’s upbeat atmosphere and exuded playful theatricality. The program paid tribute to the Lido’s flashy history. A feathered headgear and a feathered dress in leopard print and sequins added a sense of mystery and charm. At the magnificent climax, Dita Von Teese performed a delightful striptease from a large champagne glass for the front row. Mabille’s apparel collection expressed the spirit of a vibrant and daring woman, reminiscent of the charm and bubbliness of champagne bubbles.
