Peet Dullaert’s Spring – Summer 2024 Haute Couture collection, « Couture Unfolds, » debuted at Paris Couture Week and set out to alter couture’s established rules. The collection is suitably named
« Float. Into the Blue. » « Skim. The Mist. Row » was an examination of beauty, craftsmanship, and
sustainability, with a focus on celebrating the variety of human outlines.
The collection’s central theme was a break from traditional couture procedures, with a
concentration on handmade designs that celebrated the human body’s natural mobility and
fluidity. Dullaert’s workshop rejected the use of machines, instead embracing the artisanal
technique of « cousu main, » which uses only a needle and thread to construct each piece with
careful care and attention to detail.
Inspired by the resilience and energy of life in the digital age, the collection featured shapes
emerging from a storm to represent the force of human resilience and the fluidity of movement.
Dullaert reinterpreted classic suiting and tailoring processes using organic shapes and inventive
fabric manipulations, creating a new version that allowed for flexibility of movement while
maintaining sartorial elegance.
The collection included Peet Dullaert’s Signature Suiting, which is distinguished by cuts suited
for modern posture that allow for ease of movement while keeping a flowing sartorial style. This
trademark cut, achieved through a bias-cut orientation on the back and arms, provides for
dynamic movement and flexibility, demonstrating the designer’s dedication to creating for
modern lives.
Another prominent method used in the collection was flou-tailoring, which included shaping
materials directly on a living body rather than using mannequins. This hands-on approach to
design resulted in garments that draped and flowed with the body, increasing the wearer’s
comfort and flexibility.
The collection featured Peet Dullaert’s patented Techno Pleating, a one-of-a-kind innovation that
treated cloth to produce shapes that allowed for movement and flexibility. Each item, created by
a single artisan, had sophisticated pleating and structuring that allowed the wearer to move freely
without feeling constricted by the garment.
Beyond its revolutionary design processes, the Spring – Summer 2024 Haute Couture collection exemplified Peet Dullaert’s dedication to sustainability and environmental responsibility. Through the Care for Earth pledge, the business pledged to donate 1% of its turnover to carbon removal programs, thereby supporting initiatives aimed at creating a greener future.
In essence, Peet Dullaert’s « Couture Unfolds » collection demonstrated the designer’s goal for a
more inclusive, sustainable, and forward-thinking approach to couture. Dullaert has expanded the
bounds of haute couture by honoring the beauty of human diversity, embracing artisanal
craftsmanship, and promoting environmental conscience, allowing us to see a more
conscientious and compassionate future for fashion.
